Three Western-Inspired Cocktails for a Fantastic Spring Fling

There’s nothing quite like calling up the ones you love to enjoy a sweet, Southern cocktail under the stars. Whether you’re looking for something strong, sweet or somewhere in between, we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite Western-inspired cocktail recipes to keep you warm on cool spring nights.

Wild West Whiskey Sour
Nothing suggests the South quite like whiskey, and the whiskey sour is a classic way to shake up your favorite alcohol with a little sweetness. For a subtle springtime twist, try using lime juice instead of traditional lemon, and you’re sure to revive even the coldest of guests.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 oz. lime or lemon juice
  • 3/4 oz. simple syrup
  • 1-1/2 oz. Bourbon whiskey
  • Cherries

How to make it:

  • Put the fruit juice, syrup and whiskey in an ice-filled shaker, and put on the lid.
  • Shake!
  • Strain the shaker in an ice-filled glass.
  • Top with a few cherries, and serve.

Hot, Hot Toddy for Two
If you can’t wait for the heat to spike, you might need to warm up your cocktail hour – literally! Grab a special friend, throw a blanket and thermos in your truck, and get ready to get cozy. This smooth and steamy drink has a spicy, Western kick that’s sure to make you stargazers swoon.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of water
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 oz. spiced rum
  • Cinnamon stick
  • 2 whole cloves
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • Sliced lemon

How to make it:

  • Bring water to a boil.
  • Add honey, whiskey, cinnamon and cloves to the boiling water, stir, and remove from heat.
  • Let the mixture stand for five minutes.
  • Pour into two mugs, and garnish with nutmeg and lemon slices.

Spiked Peppermint Hot Cocoa
When you just can’t shake the spring chill and feel like curling up on the couch, this minty, sweet and rich chocolatey treat is a tasty way to toast your toes after kicking off your cowboy boots. Try a dollop of whipping cream on top for an extra-indulgent drink.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of milk or cream
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1-1/2 tbsp white sugar
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 oz. peppermint Schnapps

How to make it:

  • In a small saucepan, whisk together the cocoa powder, sugar, salt and 2 tablespoons of the milk or cream over medium-low heat until the sugar is dissolved and the ingredients are well combined.
  • Over medium heat, whisk in the rest of the milk or cream until the entire mixture is hot.
  • Turn of the heat, and whisk in the vanilla and Schnapps.
  • Pour into a mug, and serve.
