Western Lifestyle

A new year means new tunes, and 2016 is already shaping up to be a fantastic year for new music, from your favorite superstars to your soon-to-be favorite new artists in the country music world. We’re loving the new tunes from both country legends and rising stars, so we’ve chosen a few artists to spotlight who have new albums coming out this year.

The Cactus Blossoms – You’re Dreaming, January
This family duo comprised of brothers Page Burkum and Jack Torrey put out a debut album with a throwback bang to start the year off right. Reminiscent of the Everly Brothers, the two provide new takes on age-old influences for a fresh 2016 feel.

Hank Williams Jr. – It’s About Time, January
The country star’s first album since 2012 features the gospel-touched lead single, “Are You Ready for the Country” and gives fans some brand-new hard-hitting country tunes to rock the whole year long.

Morgan Myles – Miss Morgan Myles EP, January
This newcomer to the country music scene makes her official debut in sassy style. Her tongue-in-cheek and eponymously-titled album, which features the single “Whiskey Dreaming,” is an ode to today’s independent Western woman.

Wynonna Judd – Wynonna & The Big Noise, February
This country veteran is trying something new with the release of her first-ever full-length studio album with her band, Wynonna & The Big Noise. The 12 original tracks, some recorded without a single rehearsal and featuring a whole host of special guests, are a true labor of love.

Vince Gill – Down to My Last Bad Habit, February
This country legend’s new studio album gives us the best of both worlds: classic Vince Gill with a contemporary feel. Look out for collaborations with Little Big Town and Chris Botti.

Joey + Rory – Hymns That Are Important to Us, February
This husband and wife duo released their seventh and final studio album full of some favorite hymns in a beautiful send off to Joey, who passed away in March from cervical cancer. Their album has already reached the number-one spot on the Billboard country album rankings, marking the first number-one album of the pair’s musical career.

Charles Kelley – The Driver, February
It’s no surprise that country fans have been eager to hear the debut solo project of this Lady Antebellum star, whose band mate Hillary Scott is working on a family gospel album for 2016 with her parents and sister. Fans of both artists are in for a treat this year.

Loretta Lynn – Full Circle, March
A true icon, Loretta Lynn reminds us all of her incomparable talent this year, by releasing her first album in more than a decade. This retrospective album examines Loretta’s legacy with 13 new recordings produced by Patsy Lynn Russell and John Carter Cash.

Sean Watkins – What to Fear, March
Nickel Creek star Sean Watkins’s second solo project is sure to please. Since the politically-charged title track was released as a single, this album has given listeners plenty to think about and sing along to.

Cole Swindell – You Should Be Here, May
The title track and first single from Cole’s upcoming sophomore album is already climbing the country charts – making us extra excited for the album’s summer release.

We know there’s still plenty of time left in 2016 for great country tunes, but we think our list is a great place to start. Who do you think will release the best new country music in 2016?
